Coaching Experience
With over 32 years in NCAA Division I women's soccer, Joe Mallia is an accomplished head coach with a combined record of 183-119-46 across two prestigious university programs — Loyola University Maryland and Loyola Marymount University.
The winningest head coach in Loyola University Maryland women's soccer history, with two tenures totaling a 133-85-35 overall record — including an 87-45-8 mark from 1998–2004 and a 46-40-27 record since returning in 2019.
Served as an assistant coach at UCLA, then head coach at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles for five years (50-34-11), and an assistant at the University of Tennessee — helping the Bruins reach back-to-back Women's College Cup appearances and contributing to a Volunteers defense that posted a 0.96 goals-against average over four seasons.
Served as an assistant at the U.S. Naval Academy, where the defense ranked 12th in NCAA Division I in shutout percentage and produced a Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year.
Goalkeeper Coach for the U.S. U-21 Women's National Team from 2003–2006, helping the program reach the Nordic Cup Championship finals.
Playing Experience
An extensive playing career that included representing the U.S. U-20 Men's National Team from 1985–87 and a six-year professional career with the Baltimore Spirit, Dayton Dynamo, and Harrisburg Heat, reaching the playoffs in five of six seasons.
Standout collegiate goalkeeper at Old Dominion University — ODU Male Athlete of the Year, school record-holder in career saves and shutouts, and ranked top five in NCAA history in goals-against average.
